The Euro or the Mortice? Ask the Manchester Locksmiths Crew!
The Euro Cylinder of the Mortice Lock - that is the question!
Both have for’s and against’s - but as a personal preference and a trained locksmith i know which one is harder to get through. I’d take a mortice lock on my own front door all day long!
As Locksmith Manchester we come across a lot more uPVC than mortice locks on wooden doors, but we have more people having to shell out on new mechanisms and new euro cylinders for their uPVC doors than we do replacing mortice locks on wooden doors.
Yes uPVC is becoming more common than wooden doors, people tend to have new double glaxing on their front doors changed at the same time. uPVC mechanisms are no where near as safe and secure as wooden mortices. Firstly a mechanism works on a single trigger, once that is engaged everything will open and fllows suit.
Example - you flick the catch on the mechanism, the bolts, hooks, and rollers will all engage in the open position.
A mortice - you have to lift all 5 levers at the same time for the bolt to open on the door - unless you have the exact equipment and training - good luck with that one!
People have a mis conception that uPVC doors with all their ‘hooks and bolts’ are the most secure on the market! Wrong! Take it from us - we’re Locksmiths Manchester - and we know what we’re talking about!
