The Advantages Of Affiliate Marketing For Newbies

March 6th, 2011

There’s a myth that it’s easy to succeed at affiliate marketing, that it takes little effort, and that fortunes can be made in a very short time. Not even 1/2 of 1% of successful affiliate marketers became rich overnight. Of those who achieved success in just a short period of time, few say they were just plain lucky. Anyone who is successful admits they worked hard to get to where they are. Success in affiliate marketing can be richly rewarding, but it does takes time and hard work. The fact is that Affiliate Marketing is an exciting and thriving business.

Starting an online business is a very daunting prospect. Some of the things to be considered are; what can you offer to your potential customers? With your own online business, the first thing you must have is a product or service to sell. Do you have a product that you can buy or produce yourself to sell, or are you going to enter a franchise? Because selling physical products online means you are faced with making the products yourself, finding a franchise opportunity and researching wholesalers, to find a product range that you are comfortable with. Ideally you would have a working knowledge and experience of the product or service. You then need to be able to fulfill orders, package them, deal with customer inquiries, arrange and pay for shipping costs and the list goes on.

Essentially, an affiliate program allows you to sell another company’s service or product and you would earn a commission on every sale or lead. The company for whom you are an affiliate will provide you with an affiliate link, which is a special URL code that will identify you as the source of the customer’s introduction to the company, so you can see for yourself that your marketing plan is sound and producing results. This means that the only skill you need to master initially is that of marketing, you do not even need to build a website or handle the transaction.

First, you must decide on the theme or niche of your market. It’s important to have an idea what products or services to promote, as this would help you plan the design and layout of your web pages. Knowing this also helps you choose a powerful domain name. It needs to relate, if available, closely to the theme of your online business. In deciding what domain name to register, consider the type of products you are endorsing and the theme of your site. Having the right keywords in your domain name gives you a better chance of drawing more visitors to your web site. Choose only the top level domain extension, which is .COM. For an on line business, few attach any credibility to other extensions such as .net or .tv, etc.

Competition is extremely tight in the internet world. You must always be one-step ahead of your rivals to ensure that you capture a significant share of your target market. Therefore, you must use every possible means to encourage people not only to visit your site but also to click and proceed to the websites of the products and services you are promoting. Building an opt-in email list is one of the best ways to gather prospects. Publish a regular newsletter, an e-zine. Offer incentives to your prospects to encourage them to subscribe to your newsletters. You can offer free software, access to exclusive services and other freebies that will be helpful to your prospects.

If you do not yet have your own website, newsletter or training course, you will not be successful in marketing affiliate products or opportunities. The secret to becoming a “super affiliate” is to build trust by honestly recommending your products and opportunities in your newsletter, ebook or reports and, of course, on your website. The more your subscribers trust you, the more of your products and services they will buy from you and the more successful you will become.
